Steve doesn’t like a fuss being made over his birthday, so this year we didn’t celebrate his birthday at all. Instead, we celebrated a Random Wednesday in October.
Elisabeth and Elijah baked Big Soft Ginger Cookies…
which, chance would have it, happen to be one of Steve’s favorites.
What a coincidence!
Emily and Marissa also baked a pie (with a little “help” from Eliana).
That looks about right.
Perfect!
It was caramel apple, also one of Steve’s favorites.
Who knew?
Time out for a Care Bear hug.
Feel better? Good.
It just wouldn’t be a Random Wednesday in October without gifts, so we exchanged presents…in a sort-of one-way exchange.
Little Person has to get in on the action.
Elijah gave his Daddy a bag of chips, which, since Random Wednesday in October is not a person-specific holiday, meant that the Boy also felt justified in helping his daddy consume said chips.
Mostly the kids use Random Wednesday in October to lavish their papa with homemade cards and his favorite junk food.
Elisabeth gave him instant kindling for his fire starting kit—smart girl!
Hannah gave her Daddy a…
Starbucks gift card which he did not share with that baby. No caffeine for the baby!!!
Emily gave him…
What is it Daddy?
Let me help you with that.
a finger saw—a barbed wire that connects to two rings that go on your finger. Hey, that’s a great idea in the strange sort of life we lead.
This party took place at Steve’s mother’s house in California, in case you thought our trailer suddenly grew.
Now then, back the important stuff—pie.
Did you say, “Pie?”
Why am I eating a plain apple when I could be eating…
That’s better.
Pie makes this girl smile…
like this:
Monkey see, monkey do.
Here it is.
Of course, we have to do everything in duplicate—two batches of cookies, two different pies—to ensure that dietary allergens and other triggers are left out of one of them.
That’s worth another look!
Somebody stop her!
We said stop her, not help her.
Happy Random Wednesday in October, friends!
We’d have saved you some pie, but, well…we didn’t want to.
