Ah, Halloween. We’re not into spooks and evil, and we don’t do much sugar around here, so we kinda keep to ourselves most years.

This year we had an events party in the trailer.

The First Event: Runway.

Rules: Participants must design a costume from whatever is on hand, write about it, and display his or her costume on the runway while the MC reads the description aloud.

Event Number Two: Create a Pumpkin—Chopped (Food Network) style.

Directions: using only the ingredients in the brown bag and a few pre-selected items, participants must create something that resembles a pumpkin, taking into consideration that it will be tasted by our judge, and participants do have to eat it after the event. Time limit: 12 minutes.

Event Number Three: Make-Your-Own Pizza Person

Directions: Make your own pizza person.

Eliana’s cheeseless faceless person.

Event Number Four—Handless Jello/Apple Sauce-Eating Food Transfer Competition, Minute-to-Win-It style.

Directions: Participants must transfer all the non-gelatin, non-sauce foods from the plate to the cup, and then must eat all the gelatin or apple sauce on the plate. All of this must be done without the use of hands or feet, except to right your cup if it tips.

Event Number Five: Create-a-Creature

Directions: Participants must build a creature using only the available foods and supplies. The creature must be edible, and the participant must eat the entire creature (stabilizing components are exempt) after the competition. Time limit: 15 minutes. Participants will be judging the exhibits and a winner will be chosen in the following categories:

• creature you’d most like to have for a pet
• cutest
• scariest
• creature you’d least like to meet in a dark alley
• overall favorite
• most creative use of ingredients

Critter voting took place using a small number of M&Ms Christy won by having the lowest score for lady’s night Bunko at Messiah Lutheran Church in Nampa, Idaho. Being a loser pays off sometimes.
