You Are Now Entering the Mission Field

The Travel Bags

Every Christian’s life is a mission. Every Christian is a missionary, whether to the far reaches of the globe, or to the little tousle-haired child sitting on Mama’s lap. Our mission is a bit unique, in that we travel as a family throughout the country.

Whether your mission field is the world, the country, or your own backyard, you have a mission field, which is why I love this sign we found above the door at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Yucaipa, California.

You are now entering the mission field.

Of course, Prince of Peace had a little restriction on how you enter the mission field:

You are now entering the mission field. Please use the other door.

Pastor Mammil of Prince of Peace has a mission field in his own back yard. He is one of those rare people with a perpetual smile on his face, despite the hardships he witnesses and the hard work with which he serves his congregation.

“This is why pastors wear robes.” ~Pastor Mammil, a.k.a. Vinnie, according to his coveralls.

With his Thursday night dinners, his food bank, and his genuine caring for people down on their luck, this man is making a mark in his mission field.

A lesson for us all: you are now entering the mission field…just use the right door.
